For Vintage Vortex and Graveface Records:

From the cosmic collection of
Anitra & Nicodemus

Written by Leslie Dahling

Savannah is full of characters and creatives. Anitra and Nicodemus were otherworldly legends that will live on in so many hearts and minds. They loved everything odd, fascinating, eccentric, and beautiful—and we are lucky enough to have a few pieces of their collection to share with you.

Together, they lived between NYC, Miami's South Beach, and Savannah, where they wreaked divine havoc in all creative endeavors. Their apartment was filled with treasures, from Egyptian-inspired decor (and homemade masks), to vintage Mickey Mouse, to an impressive sunglasses collection (which they often wore at night). Their wardrobes consisted mostly of over-the-top costumes, used both in performances and for a casual night out.

Some of their creative endeavors include:

• Their NYC cable access show from the mid-90s, Krash Boom TV, which documented the Club Kid scene that they were an integral part of cultivating.

• Their band, Men Smash Atoms, which was active from the 90s until Nicodemus passed in 2019. Anitra carried the torch for the following 6 years, though she always missed her other half.

• Their record company, Kilowatt Tango Records, which they self-published their Men Smash Atoms works through, as well as the work of many local musicians.

We hope that Anitra and Nicodemus will continue to touch lives through their work and collection, and inspire for many years to come.

Anitra Warren

The amazing Anitra Opera Diva, of Polish-Italian background, followed in her mother’s and grandmother’s footsteps, becoming a dancer (who trained with Martha Graham) and an opera singer, respectively. Anitra's unbridled creativity and endless talents inspired many, and her charisma was off the charts (baby stimpers! bad girl stuff!). Her life was full of fun, costumes, music and magic, art and performance, usually with her partner Nicodemus. She loved her Chihuahua, Lulu, and her cats, Ariel and Pyewacket.

Nicodemus Hammil

Australian wunderkind Nicodemus Hammil was a force. He was a multi-disciplinary artist, actor, and performer, who had a talent for improv, impressions, accents, and emceeing like no other. Nico was Anitra’s personal makeup artist and costume designer. He also enjoyed being a ghost tour guide in the haunts of Savannah, GA. His many collaborations and projects over the years speak to the prolific creations of he and his life-partner, Anitra.
