Anitra’s Eulogy

By Dame Darcy

Anitra Warren #anitraoperadiva ‘s

#diva spirit isn’t really gone.

She’s just somewhere else that we can’t see- Enchanting new and old spirit’s with her BAD GIRL STUFF.

She and Nicodemus were some of the first performers I encountered in #nyc in the early 90’s when I freshly landed there and went to the Lime Light. #limelight

In what had been an amazing ancient church now lit up with an ethereal green glow ,

this had become another place of worship and refuge for the Goth community and club kids.

Anitra and Nicodemus Hammil always stood out with their distinctive style and #music.

True originals.

They made a lasting impression on anyone who was fortunate enough to be blessed with their #magic lives.

Anitra was a The Juilliard School #Primaballerina .

Being third generation talent, her Mom and grandmother were both professional #opera singers and ballet dancers.

So despite the fact she fell down all the time, Anitra’s essential grace, with her lovely dove like hands, and spicy personality were embedded in her bones from long ago.

And she had the absolutely incredible stories to go with it.

Anitra performed all over the world and lived in Australia, London, Spain, Paris, LA, Miami and who knows where else. Before they arrived in #savannah.

So you can only imagine my surprise when I moved to Savannah she was literally the first person I met within the first week of moving here.

And imagine my amazement when Anitra, the lady who made me think anything was possible when I was a 22 year old kid, freshly arrived in NY was now offering me voice lessons 2 decades later in the deep south.

From then on, her and Nico were a bedrock foundation for me and helped ease my NY culture shock.

Also her being here was a confirmation sign Savannah was my #destiny.

Personally I loved how Anitra scared all the right people with her #blacklipstick and #darkhumor,

but some of her found family also saw a side of her that was just a lonely little girl on the railroad tracks in upstate New York.

A little girl who loved the ocean, and animals, so she attracted strays wherever she went .

She loved to tell the story of how she got in trouble with her Mom when a kitty, little dog and a baby raccoon followed her home one day.

As Anitra told it, “The kitty ran into the basement had babies wrapped in disgusting plastic that the mommy kitty ate.”

But because the kitty had babies, her Mom couldn’t throw them out and that’s how Anitra got to keep ALLL the #cats.

Best Wishes Anitra, May your flame burn bright where nothing can dim it.

A place where you can finally party with the #aliens of #ancientegypt , while dressed like a #neon #demonic #rococo #princess.

#restinpeace in a place beyond this world that you were too good for, and not everyone could appreciate your genuine genius flame.

Your #foundfamily will forever miss you and love you.
